Outlook Anywhere Configuration for Outlook 2010

Using Outlook Anywhere (known as RPC over HTTP in previous versions of Outlook) allows Outlook 2010 to access the Exchange Server over the Internet. This procedure configures Outlook 2010 for use from any location. No VPN connection is necessary. It is suitable for use with a laptop or other off-campus computer when Outlook Web Access is not sufficient.
  1. Go to Control Panel and then click the Mail icon.
  2. Click Add

  3. Give the profile a name and then OK.
  4. Select Manually configure server settings or additional server types on the bottom and click Next

  5. Select Microsoft Exchange or compatible server and click Next.
  6. Enter the following information.

    • Server: Enter your Exchange Server name:  mail.em.ucla.edu   *NOTE: if on Exchange 2007 you will need to enter your exchange server em11.ad.ucla.edu, em12.ad.ucla.edu... (depending where your mailbox is located, if you dont know which mail server you are on, type EM11.AD.UCLA.EDU and it will resolve to the correct one).
    • Select Use Cached Exchange Mode (Stores a local copy of your mailbox on your computer which causes your Outlook to load quicker).
    • User Name: Your EM login or Display Name

  7. Click on More Settings.
  8. Click on the Connection tab.
  9. Under Outlook Anywhere, check the box for Connect to Mircrosoft Exchange using HTTP and click on Exchange Proxy Settings...
  10. Enter the following information and click OK.

    • Under Connection Settings:
      • Enter mail.em.ucla.edu in the field for https://*Note: If one Exchange 2007, you would use em.ucla.edu
      • check the box for On fast networks, connect using HTTP first, then connect using TCP/IP
      • check the box for On slow networks, connect using HTTP first, then connect using TCP/IP
    • Under Proxy authentication settings: select Basic Authentication.


  11. Click Next on the following screen.
  12. After clicking Next in Step 11, you will be asked for the first time your username and password. Enter your EM logon credentials and click OK.

    • User Name: Enter ad\EM Login
    • Password: Enter your EM password

  13. Click Finish on the next screen.

  14. Click OK to close the Mail icon properties.
